About Robert

Yorkshire artist, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Robert Burbidge has built a career bridging the gap between traditional musicianship and underground club culture. Classically trained on trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, and piano from the age of seven—including a stint with the prestigious National Children’s Wind Orchestra—he seamlessly carried that impressive musical foundation straight into the electronic underground.

Initially recording under the alias Rubberlips, Robert became a fixture on the UK dance scene. His sharp ear for production and genre-crossing arrangements led to high-profile collaborations with house royalty and cult icons alike—including Grammy-winning Louie Vega, Yorkshire legends Utah Saints, Damo Suzuki (CAN), Tom Findlay (Groove Armada), Ashley Beedle, and Gregory Thomas (Funkadelic). As a live performer, his dynamic sets spanned from the greenfields hedonism of Beat-Herder Festival to the majestic stage of London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Now producing and arranging under his own name, Robert’s studio operates as a vibrant creative hub for UK and international talent. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming solo album, Cold Hearts and Bad Debt, featuring legendary keyboardist Toby Baker (Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Sinéad O’Connor) and powerhouse brass collective The Haggis Horns (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson).

Robert’s recent output showcases impressive breadth and musical knowledge across a wide range of genres and collaborations:

Soul, Dance & House: Sophisticated club-ready tracks with Louise Spiteri, Andre Espeut, and Robin Lee (Faze Action).

Jazz: Fusion, modern-sounding pieces featuring trumpeter Kevin G Davy (Cymande).

Tangential Music Releases: Collaborative indie and soundscape material with co-producer Steve Gligorovic and singer-songwriter Winter.

Underground Electronics: Industrial-edged tracks and remixes with local DJs, including Chris Price feat. Mikey B (Lock Step – Infrared Beam Remix).

Inspired by the chameleon-like production philosophy of Trevor Horn, Robert’s approach is simple: strip away the unnecessary, listen to the raw essence of the artist, and build a genre-fluid space where their voice can shine.

This distinct sound has earned global airplay across BBC Radio 1, Soho Radio, and cult US station KCRW. Moving effortlessly between light and dark, organic warmth and electronic precision, Robert Burbidge continues to evolve the boundaries between classic composition, evocative indie soundtracks, and contemporary club music.
